Chimney FAQ

Q. Do you use scaffold or ladders to access the chimney?

A. We always use scaffolding for all chimney jobs so we can properly access all the areas of the chimney.

Q. Can you match the type of brick on my chimney?

A: We can get a good match for 80% of common brick types. Non-standard bricks are matched in priority of size, colour and pattern.

Q. Can you replace individual damaged bricks on my chimney?

A. Only in certain cases. If the chimney is small or the mortar is hard, replacing single bricks or sections usually undermines the integrity of the masonry. On larger chimneys sections of brick can be replaced on a case by case basis.

Q. What is the most common type of chimney repair?

A. The most common thing that needs to be fixed on chimneys is the cap. The cap sits on the top of the chimney stack and stops water from entering. Cap repairs can consist of replacing it, relaying existing caps, parging/resurfacing, re-caulking and sealing, and installing rain hats or screens.

Q. Can you replace just my chimney cap without rebuilding my chimney?

A. Yes, however the top course (layer) of brick always needs to be replaced when installing a new masonry cap because when the cap get damaged the bricks underneath suffer.

Q. If my chimney is visibly leaning do I have to worry about it falling?

A. Clearly any leaning chimney is a potential safety hazard but there are two important factors. How much the chimney is leaning out of plumb relative to the height is most important, and also how badly damaged it is. If bricks are loose, or all the joints are cracked there is a problem.

Q. I don’t use my chimney? Is it cheaper to deconstruct it or to repair it?

A. Depends on the amount of damage, but if the damage is severe and the chimney is not in use deconstruction is usually a more cost-effective option. Deconstructed chimneys are usually capped just above the roofline.

I must congratulate your crew. I was in total awe when I walked on to my porch and saw how clean and tidy they had left their working space.

    Estimates FAQ

Q: How do you price your estimates?
A: Estimate prices are based on either square footage/number of units or by number of workers x number of days. Company costs such as trucks, gas, storage, insurance, advertising, offices etc. are added to the estimates as a fixed percentage.

    Q. Can I get a better deal by getting more work done?
    A. Yes. Square footage and per unit prices are lower with higher volumes. Doing 2 jobs at the same time will often lower the overall price.

    Q. Who does your estimates?
    A. All the estimates are done by one of our experienced estimators. The owner Dan Bloom, Matt Marshall and Shawna Allen handle the workload.

    Q. How soon can I get an estimator to come by?
    A. We strive to get you an estimator as quickly as possible, generally with 1-2 weeks. If you submit photos via email or our website, we can get you an estimate even faster.  We are experiencing an influx of review during COVID, causing a delay, we thank you for your patience as there are longer than normal wait times.

    Q: Are estimates free?
Generally, yes. We charge in rare circumstances for site estimates, usually because of location or size. We would notify you beforehand of any fee.
